UCONN-SECURE Network

The following step by step instructions will detail how to configure your computer to run on the UCONN-SECURE wireless network using Mac OSX.5
- Change your NetID password at http://netid.uconn.edu from a wired connection.
Note: - If you have changed your NetID later than March 4, 2008 then you do not have to perform this step.
- This will change your password for ALL applications that use NetID such as your Exchange/Huskymail account and HuskyCT
- Go to the Apple menu and select the System Preferences... command.
- From the System Preference window go the Internet & Network section and select the Network.
- From the Network section, select Airport from the list of interfaces on the left.
- Click the Turn Airport Off button to deactivate the wireless interface.
- Click the Advanced button to access additional wireless settings.
- From the Airport tab, click the “+” icon in the lower-left to add a new wireless network.
- From the dialog that appears, select the Security option and select WPA2 Enterprise from the list of network protocols that appear.
- Fill in the network parameters with the following credentials as it appears below:
- Network Name = UCONN-SECURE
- Security = WPA2 Enterprise
- User Name = NetID
- Password = NetID Password
- 802.1x = Automatic
- Select/ Check Remember this network
- Click “add” once complete
- After you click Add to add the network at the Airport settings, switch to the 802.1X section.
- Click the “+” button in the lower-left and select the option to Add User Profile.
- Enter the following information as it appears below and then click OK:
- User Name = NetID
- Password = NetID Password
- Wireless Network = UCONN-SECURE
- Authentication = PEAP
- Click OK when complete.
- From the Network window, click the Apply button to save new settings.
- Click the Turn Airport On button to reactivate the wireless interface.
- After a minute or so, you should see a status indicating that you are “Authenticated via PEAP”
- If this is your first time configuring secure wireless, you may also be presented with a 802.1X Authentication dialog. If so, enter your NetID credentials and click OK to continue.

- After authenticating, you will be presented with a Verify Certificate dialogue. Click the Show Certificate button to access advanced certificate options.
- Once expanded, select the certificate listed under the UTN-USERFirst-Hardware item and check-off the option for Always trust “xxx.uits.uconn.edu” (generally bean or ender). Note: you can ensure that all options for this certificate show the “Always Trust" option by clicking the small triangle next to the Trust option in the lower section of the Certificate dialog.





Note: UITS recommends you remove all other networks that you do not use.
